This is my mood board i have created to show images of my chosen genre rap/hip hop. I will be concentrating on this type of genre and these type of images as they go well with my magazine i will wish to create. The mood board shows the typical rap/hip hop genre of both clothing and performance in what the artists wear and also how they perform. The bottom few images are the two artists Chris Brown and Tyga, taking their genre to another level and performing together. Throughout the mood board scatted are a couple of brands of clothing such as 'Supreme' and 'Obey' these brands also fit in well with the style of genre.

2nd double page spread analysis
This is my second double page spread of my chosen genre:
Headline: The headline tells us the initials of the artist shown in the main image, and the 'W' is in black and the 'K' in yellow, a colour scheme because of Wiz Khaklifa's hat and he also had a song called 'black and yellow' relating to his music and genre of rap/hip hop.
Sub Heading: The sub heading says 'How High' referring to the cannabis smoking in the main image, and this could also mean how high is Wiz Khalifa wanting to go in his career, is he moving up in the music industry at high levels, we then need to see what this defiantly means by reading the article.
The article: The article starts off with 'the lead' or a brief introduction on what to expect in the article. The layout is columns and looks quite formal to the reader.
Vibe magazine: We know that this magazine is 'Vibe' as it tells us in the top right hand corner of the magazine on the second page of he double page spread.
Main image: The main image shown on the first page shows Wiz Khalifa with a hat in a stylised/formal way smoking to look cool towards his genre and fans.
1st Double page spread analysis

This is my first double page spread of my chosen genre:
Headline: The headline just tells us the name of the artist 'Fiasco' in a gold colour, the double page spread is going for a certain black and yellow theme.
Colour: The black and yellow theme runs throughout this double page spread, in the clothing of the artist shown in the main image, the story quotation and headline.
The article: Split up in columns and separates the important information from the regular interview story, as the important information is highlighted in the gold colour, distinctive for the audience.
Streetz magazine: The audience can see that the magazine is a 'streetz' magazine as it reminds us of the title of the magazine on the double page spread in the bottom left hand corner.
Main Image: The main image shows a stylised image of Lupe Fiasco wearing pristine clothing in which blends into the double page spreads colour scheme. There is a secondary image also which isn't stylised and shows Fiasco at a live concert in the top right hand corner.
Q Magazine double spread

The first page of the Q Magazine is shown above. On this first page of the Q Magazine double page spread:
- The page is very in keeping with the tone of the magazine's red theme throughout showing the colour red across the two pages of the double page spread, as we see here in the name 'Xavier de Rosnaay' and the illustration box telling us who is in the picture.
- The box in the top left hand corner above the main image is also very useful as it tells us the people shown in the main image from left to right, which will be used for us in the q and a part of the double page spread on the second page.
- The magazine is a men based magazine story showing the men as un pristine and effortless in the picture.
- The quote "I loved that Snopp Dogg was wanted for murder" which engages the audience in finding out what that perhaps controversial comment will be about when they read the next page of the double page spread, it also fills in the white gap between the two men in the picture, this is a good use of space.
- The main image shows the two men (two disc jockeys) who work together as a duo looking at old vinyl's and looking at the camera almost caught off guard for the picture. They aren't wearing pristine clothing so we can tell the magazine is for mainly men as this is the target audience. The main part of the double page spread is the main image.

- Q Magazine house style on the Headline shows red and uses graphics to draw attention. The red is iconic and the graphics will help people want to read this article.
- Drop capital as it starts with the H and follows on to the rest of the word, the H is used in white lettering with a red background.
- The sub heading is the name of the band 'justice' that is also in red, keeping with the tone of the overall magazine.
- In the lead introduction paragraph they use the word 'crap' colloquialism the language we speak to make us want to read it, informal relaxed and registered.
- They also use bold writing and normal text to separate the questions from the answers.

Hip Hop weekly contents page analysis

- The magazine i have analysed in this blog post is that of 'Hip Hop weekly' a popular magazine from its genre of hip hop music.
- The contents page as we see here is set out in columns giving us a lot of information in a easy way in which we can identify and then proceed in going to that page with our chosen story we would like to read about.
- The main cover lines tell us either a title followed by the name of the artist who's story that is for example: 'when good rich met hood rich: Drake' or simply just the name of the artist such as 'Tyga'.
- The regular cover lines are basically just a brief piece of information about the main cover line in bold. This will tell us a brief description in what the story is about. The main cover line is shown in bold whilst the regular cover paragraph in lower case, the number is also in keeping with the magazines look with the red and black title as the number of the page showing next to the cover lines are in red.
- There is advertising in the bottom right corner to yell us to visit the website of the magazine.
- There are two main pictures on this content page as it shows two artists of the industry in the bottom left hand corner and the top right hand corner, these images will relate to the main cover line which will relate to the main story, a cycle for us the audience to follow.

2 Vibe contents pages i analysed

Title: The title of the page is mumbled in the top right hand corner of the magazines contents page and is basically telling us the audience of what to expect on this page, the contents.
Vibe: There is a letter V in the background of the main image and that shows us the audience that the magazine is called Vibe.
Main Cover lines: Used to separate each featured category.
Cover lines: There to show us the audience that there are a lot of different stories added in the magazine, and the bolder the text mainly means the more important each story will be.
Central image: The central image shows a woman very provocatively throwing her legs up in the air, looking towards the camera, this to fetishtically show its a mens magazine mainly.

Title: There is no indication of this page being a contents page however we know it is as there is page information on the bottom left hand side in white writing on a plain black background.
Vibe: We knot it is vibe magazines contents page as it has the logo on the top left hand corner.
Main cover lines: 'features' in bold writing telling us what to expect as the pages and numbers of the content follow.
Cover lines: page numbers with content underneath main cover line.
Main image: The main image shows Chris Brown in a suit dancing and smiling to show sophistication and a enthusiastic approach for his music and his fans and we as an audience know a story will follow regarding the main image will be held in the magazine.

Second Rolling Stone magazine analysis

This is my second analysed chosen magazine cover. For this i chose the magazine 'rolling stone'. This magazine is good for my chosen genre rap/hiphop.
- Masthead- The masthead is the words 'masthead' in red writing and black outlining to stand out to the target audience.
- Headline- 'New faces of 2011' in bright red writing. This will not only stand out to the audience but also tell the audience what to expect in the audience, new faces of 2011, so artists from all genre's which will make an impact on music.
- Main image- Shows Wiz Khalifa the artist with one eye open and one eye shut, perhaps to promote confidence, he is wearing a leather jacket and gold chain also to show richness and publicity towards my chosen genre.
- Anchorage text- The anchorage text says 'rookie of 2011- wiz khalifa' basically talking about the artist shown in the main image and also he may have won an award for being rookie of the year for 2011.
- Additional features- Show some stories included on the right hand side in mixed black and red writing to stand out.
First XXL magazine analysis

This is my first magazine analysis and i have decided to use XXL magazine on both as it has much to do with the certain genre i have chosen, rap/hip hop.
- Masthead- The masthead shown is classic XXL red background followed by the words 'XXL' in white to stand out to the audience.
- Headline- The headline 'Notorious BIG' is the name of the artist shown in the main image and the to audience they will know the magazine is a commemorative issue about the certain artist.
- Main image- The main image is of Notorious BIG a rapper/ Hip hop artist who had recently been killed, and the magazine is to show that the magazine 's main vocal point will be about him overall, and the target audience will understand this and buy the magazine.
- Anchorage text- Within the anchorage it tells us 'he was unbelievable' in stand out red and black writing, to stand out to the audience and make them think about who the main image represents, to get them interested in reading on.
- Additional features: Show '40 pictures you have never seen before' to attract the target audience as they will want to see the exclusive pictures about their favourite artist.

Photoshop

I used photo shop mainly to create my magazine front cover. I had to use photo shop to develop my front cover for my college magazine to make it look more authentic and natural. Firstly i put on my main image and tweaked it until i thought it was suitable, i then added in the masthead and title and secondary features. The photo shop tools helped me create my front cover and overall it was down to photo shop on letting me use to tools to tweak and develop my magazine cover.
My finished front cover college magazine
After i designed the mock up for my front cover of my college magazine i started to develop the actual front cover. i used mainly photo shop and paint tools to create my final piece using an image of myself showing confusion when looking at a maths book. I wanted to show that the work is tough but with the right attitude you can achieve your goals. Their is a sign in the background also which says "Get ready to learn" just in the left hand corner and this i have tried to make sure is in my main image as it has allot to do with what i am trying to portray throughout my front cover. I used a classic college magazine masthead font for my "heenan howler" and also done a very simple title which states "get the grades you want today...". I have also put the schools badge and logo in the bottom left hand corner to show authenticity and on the bottom right have put a secondary image showing the school blazer and a secondary feature title saying "new uniform stock for 2012" in stand out red writing to show colour in order to stand out to the viewer. Overall i thought my college magazine worked well because of the big masthead and colour of my main image and secondary feature was enough too stand out to my target audience.
